How You Can Save Water Every Day

Water is essential for life. By making small changes to our daily habits, we can save thousands of litres of water every year and help protect our environment for future generations.

Water Saving Tip

1. Turn Off the Tap While Brushing Your Teeth

Leaving the tap running wastes many litres of water. Turn it off until you need to rinse.

2. Fix Leaking Taps

Repair leaking taps and pipes as soon as possible to prevent unnecessary water loss.

3. Take Shorter Showers

Reducing your shower by just two minutes can save a large amount of water every week.

4. Use a Bucket Instead of a Hose

Wash your car with a bucket and sponge instead of using a garden hose.

5. Collect Rainwater

Use rainwater for watering plants, cleaning outside areas, or washing vehicles.

6. Water Plants Early or Late

Water your garden in the early morning or evening to reduce evaporation.

7. Only Run Full Loads

Only use your washing machine or dishwasher when it is completely full.

8. Wash Fruit in a Bowl

Instead of letting water run continuously, wash fruit and vegetables in a bowl.

9. Reuse Water

Reuse water from rinsing vegetables or washing clothes to water your garden where appropriate.

10. Don't Flush Unnecessarily

Avoid flushing the toilet when it isn't needed to reduce water usage.

11. Keep Drinking Water in the Fridge

Store cold drinking water in the fridge instead of running the tap until it becomes cold.

12. Sweep Instead of Hosing

Use a broom to clean driveways and patios instead of using a hosepipe.

13. Report Water Leaks

Report broken pipes and leaking public taps to your municipality so they can be repaired.
